The Directors

Matt and James aren’t surfers but they like to think that they’re pretty decent filmmakers. The pair are creative directors and co-owners of the Bristol based production company Level Films – producing documentaries, dramas and promos for corporate and creative organisations. “It was after first working with Mitch back in 2008 that Matt and I really caught the surfing bug. That’s not to say that we’ve become any better at surfing, but we have become more than interested and just a little bit less than obsessed by surfing and everything that comes with it. When we first interviewed Mitch he told us that he’ll be surfing until he’s too old to stand-up. That really got us thinking about the passion, devotion and sheer eccentricities of British surfers and particularly the early pioneers. Over the following months we read and watched all that we could about the British scene and were blown away by the characters and stories that we found. For us the aim of The Endless Winter is to share these stories and personalities and give credit to the charming, hardy and occasionally barking mad characters of the British surf scene.” – James Dean.
